‘Daredevil’ Reboot D.O.A?

Daredevil, The Man Without Fear

Been a slow news day, though I stumbled upon something interesting at SuperHeroHype.

According to Joe Carnahan, Fox’s upcoming “Daredevil” reboot is dead on arrival.  This isn’t surprising, if it happens to be the case, because the only way that Fox could reboot the franchise would be for them to turn over the rights to Galactus and the Silver Surfer, and I get the feeling that in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot they want a little more than a cloud this time.

Besides, there’s no way that Marvel would let Fox make a movie with Joe Carnahan (or anyone else, for that matter) with a character whose usage rights expire this coming October (though to give Fox some credit, they did try) for essentially nothing.

Here’s something interesting.  It’s a sizzle reel that IGN says comes from Carnahan, that shows the feel that the director thought the film should have.

There’s (Probably) More To Fox And Marvel Meeting Than Meets The Eye

Daredevil, The Man Without Fear

I was over at WorstPreviews yesterday, and they had an article saying that the meeting between Marvel and Fox execs was over a co-financing deal for a “Daredevil” reboot.

This sounds to me like either deliberate misdirection, or nonsense (though on whose part, I can’t say).

The problem for me is:  How can Twentieth Century Fox discuss a co-financing deal about a movie based upon a character, come October 10, they will not have any rights to?

By way of analogy, that’s like me taking out a loan that comes due October 10, and me not only saying that the bank isn’t going to get their money back, but I have a great scheme that–by the graciousness of my heart–will let them in on.

In other words, there can be no “co-financing” deal between Marvel and Fox because it would imply that Fox somehow had the right to make such an arrangement in the first place.

Which also implies that there was more going on at that meeting than we probably know anytime soon.

Why Fox Should Give Marvel The Rights To The Silver Surfer & Galactus

There have recently been rumors milling about that Fox is high on Joe Carnahan relaunching “Daredevil,” though there appears to be a fly in the ointment.

That fly being that, unless the film is in production by the 10th of this coming October, the rights to the character revert back to Marvel.

This is happening because Twentieth Century Fox originally planned to have David Slade direct, though he left to do “Hannibal” instead.

And the likelihood that “Daredevil” production will ramp up from now to the 10th of October is very, very unlikely, if not impossible.

Netflix Speeds Away From ‘Terra Nova’

Netflix has done plenty of stupid things, but their latest decision isn’t among them.   They have decided, in a burst of sanity, to not take on “Terra Nova” after it had been cancelled by Fox.

Netflix doesn’t have the deep pockets of a Twentieth Century Fox–and “House of Cards, and the participation of David Fincher, doesn’t come cheap–so they have to be careful in taking on expensive properties.

Are All Things Really Better In 3D?

Twentieth Century Fox is re-releasing George Lucas’s “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” in 3D in 2012, according to The New York Times.

Is such a move going to help the current box office slump?

This makes me wonder:  Is adding another dimension to a pretty mediocre movie really going to make a difference to people, when money is tight, and they are already reluctant to part with what little hard-earned cash that they already have?

The decision boggles my mind, and it sounds like an epic fail to me, though there are executives at Fox that are paid a lot of cash to know these types of things.

And speaking of Star Wars:  Doesn’t anyone else think that George Lucas investing in re-doing the effects of his first three Star Wars films just a tad…odd?

And “Titanic 3D?”  Really?
