Dreams of Flight Deferred

Marvel’s Angel, is probably one of the most underrated superheroes there are (of course, I am not referring to Archangel.  That guy is absolutely lethal) besides DC’s Aquaman–who’s really lame, by the way.  His only ability is that of flight–which was probably obvious, considering those huge wings. Flight is a weak ability, till you consider […]

‘Cosmopolis’ Trailer

“Cosmopolis” has everything that a moviegoer could want.  There’s Robert Patterson, for the ‘Twilight’ contingent, and David Cronenberg, perhaps the premiere director of the weird and bizarre. And this film definitely seems to fit that bill, seeing that it revolves around a billionaire (Patterson) who is searching for a haircut, and the twisted things that […]

‘Piranha 3DD’ Trailer

Here’s the red band trailer for “Piranha 3DD,” from The Weinstein Company, which also released the Academy Award winning film, “The Artist.” And while “Piranha 3DD” will probably win few Oscars, it has assets that its more renown brethren lacks. It’s also not safe for viewing at work. That is, unless you happen to have […]

Warner Bros Conjures Up ‘Mandrake The Magician’

When I was growing up, I was a big listener of radio shows, like “The CBS Radio Mystery Theater” (hosted first by E.G. Marshall, followed by Tammy Grimes), “The Mysterious Traveler,” “The Green Hornet,” “Inner Sanctum,” and “Chondu, The Magician.” A show that I didn’t listen to much was “Mandrake The Magician,” though it appears […]

Disney Takes A Massive Hit On ‘John Carter’

Disney is going to take a $200 million dollar write-off on “John Carter.” The worse thing is that it shouldn’t have happened, because after an initial stumble  (the first half hour or so),  the film was actually pretty enjoyable.  I don’t know who’s responsible (other than Andrew Stanton, who’s fingerprints are to be found on […]

The ‘Arrow’ Revealed!

According to Deadline, the image to the left is the “Arrow,”(above) from the upcoming CW series.  I could just be a bit off-base, but I was expecting a new interpretation of DC’s Green Arrow (below).  Instead, it looks like they’re sticking to, essentially, the same costume as the character wore on “Smallville. Which makes me […]

Brian’s ‘John Carter’ Review

“”John Carter’s” greatest problem rests less with actors, than with a studio that entertains the excesses of a director in matters relating to budget.” When you think about Andrew Stanton’s “John Carter,” it’s hard to get beyond its monstrous budget.  That’s a pity because, despite beginning somewhat awkwardly, it’s actually pretty entertaining. “John Carter” looks […]

Bringing Light To ‘Prometheus’

Aint It Cool recently posted another “Prometheus” trailer, as well as an interview with Damon Lindelhof and Ridley Scott.  The new trailer is less a dramatic assembly of scenes that an outline of what the film is about. Don’t worry, while it dispels some basic mysteries, it hints at more interesting, darker, things.

New ‘Prometheus’ Trailer

Here’s the latest trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus,” the sorta-prelude to “Alien.” The visuals look remarkable, though what’s funny is that the occasional snippet of dialog underwhelms.  In this respect I am reminded of Scott’s “Legend,” that had beautiful visuals–a Ridley Scott trademark–but little else to counterbalance them. Don’t quite know why that is.  Perhaps […]
