The ‘Paranormal Activity’ films – so far four and counting – took what is normally a pretty creepy idea (basically people forced into having to deal with malign, invisible entities) and ran the entire premise into the ground. The films are in ‘found-footage’ style, which means people run about with cameras in situations where doing so defies any sense of logic or common sense.
Hmmm. A bunch of demonic beings are closing on me. If I were to put this camera down and actually run, I might stand a chance…So why don’t I do it (other than the needs of the script, that is)?
This addition seems to use Hispanic actors and actresses as main characters, and while this is great news for Latino actors and actresses, the movie itself looks as lame as most of the other films in the series that proceeded it.
I am giving this a 10 because there are people who knowingly hate this series, who are giving it a low rating just to be vindictive.
This is a good movie. The acting was good, the setting was different, and it tied in every well with the rest of the series. It answered some questions and opens up options to end the franchise in a neat way.
I don’t know what everyone is complaining about – if you’ve seen one movie, then you know by now what to expect. The PA franchise isn’t Oscar material, but that’s not why people watch them. I’ve also seen complaints that the movies “don’t scare” the viewer, but I watch them because they are fun and entertaining, not because I want to be scared. Think: Evil Dead.
So I don’t want to give anything away – but if you’re a fan, you will like this one. It’s better than PA4 and explains a lot.

Interesting, though I think a ’10’ is a but much (reason being, I don’t give films a ’10 out of 10′ that is firing on all cylinders and does everything perfectly) though for me the ‘PA’ films are too predictable.
After you’re seen one, you have definitely seen them all. Nothing (essentially) changes from one film to another.
