Shaft is back!
Richard Roundtree introduced the character to moviegoers in 1971 in an eponymously titled movie directed by Gordon Parks and written by Ernest Tidyman and John D.F. Black.
It spawned two sequels, Shaft’s Big Score in 1972 (also directed by Parks) and Shaft in Africa, this time directed by John Guillermin, in 1973.
Jump 27 years later to 2000, where a reboot of the franchise came out starring Samuel Jackson, also called Shaft, was released by Paramount. It did pretty well, though here’s where things get odd.
Earlier today a trailer for a sequel(?), nineteen years later, dropped and it’s not only from a different studio, but is more comedic than any of the former movies.
