Trailer Into REaction: Morbius (2020) | Teaser Trailer

If you’ve seen The Amazing Spider-Man 1 2 and Venom you probably feel that Sony’s treatment of Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man property has not always been up to snuff (and you likely noticed I didn’t include Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, and that was no accident since Raimi essentially did what he wanted with the first two movies; with any mentionable degree of studio interference coming with Spider-Man 3, considered by most to be the worse of the original trilogy, which is not a coincidence).

And I know what you’re probably thinking: What about Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse?

And my response would be: What about it? I think it’s among the best of the Sony adaptations of Marvel IP (intellectual property), but that’s not saying much.

And don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. I don’t necessarily think superhero movies–or any movie for that matter–needs to win an award (ironically enough Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse won the Oscar in 2019 for Best Animated Feature film) to be considered worthwhile seeing or genuinely entertaining. However, as you’ll see, there are no superhero movies listed as a potential Oscar winner this year.

Though–and this should be fairly obvious–the primary point of a movie is to entertain, and while it’s not always a correlation that a movie has to be “good” or win awards of any sort to be entertaining, it doesn’t hurt.

And the trailer for Morbius? It’s a teaser and looks okay though it has some factors in its favor, such as Jared Harris, who’s a great, charismatic actor.

Then there’s Jared Leto, who despite what you may think about his portrayal of Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad, can really act (and to be fair, his interpretation of Joker, while not the direction I would have taken the character in, was not a terrible one and deserved more of a chance that it appeared to be given) and he ranks among the most interesting thing about the new trailer.
