Why Marvel Studios isn’t releasing “Captain America” on July 4th I’ll never know, though I dig the whole nostalgia vibe that the posters seem to be putting out. They appear to reflect sensibilities and a time that–probably–never really existed but that older people swear was real.

It’s easy enough. Transformers 3 got there first.
Although it would have been nice if it hadn’t worked out that way, wouldn’t it?
Yeah, but how cool would it be to see Captain America on the 4th of July! The way I see it, Transformers could have been released virtually anytime; It’s the 800-lb gorilla, nothing would stand up to it. If they had released Captain America first (this is, of course assuming that it would have been ready) then it would have pulled in beaucoup dollars in the United States (and I guess) strong foreign sales.
Then you release Transformers. The ultimate one, two punch.
