Initially I thought that an idea of a series of short films based within the Alien universe was a great idea. That is, till I saw Alien: Containment and came to–in hindsight a hasty conclusion–that maybe it’s not such a bad idea that the Alien franchise maybe takes a bit of a break. As I […]
Movie directing is typically depicted as glamorous work, despite the issues Neil Marshall may have encountered during the production of the Hellboy reboot. Though Hollywood is rife with stories about what happens when relations between directors and studios (or casts) don’t quite go as planned. For instance, Stanley Donen originally only intended to produce 1999’s […]
Alien: Containment is one of the six–though I have also read there may be seven–shorts made commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Alien. And it’s not that good. I don’t mean for a moment to imply that it’s not well-shot and convincingly production designed. No. Alien: Containment‘s problem is that it doesn’t do anything that we […]

It isn’t terrible, just not terribly inspired.
I. Love. This. Trailer. 1994’s Armistad Maupin’s Tales Of The City was some of the best television I have every seen. It’s remarkable stuff and I can’t wait to go back to Barbary Lane. Which as I mention in my video, my expectations are REALLY high for this, which is problematic because More Tales Of […]
I enjoyed both Hellboy (2004) and it’s sequel, Hellboy: The Golden Army (2008) and for awhile I couldn’t understand why both movies underwhelmed at the box office. Before now, that is. What I missed was that Hellboy was always a niche character. He was in the comics and apparently he’s the same in the movies. […]
I caught the first season of Netflix’s reboot of Ultraman over the weekend, and it’s pretty good though it’s animated in the same way as other Netflix anime like Knights Of Sidonia and Godzilla, and it irritates me every time that I see it. Visually, it looks like the producers put a cartoon filter on […]
