2017, despite the reality of a Trump presidency, and all the insanity such an idea beings can be considered a golden age –especially if you happen to be a fan of superheroes because there are probably more viewing choices to choose from than there has ever been. The while the CW isn’t known as ‘The […]
I have been know to review books here on Screenphiles, but it’s not something that I do on any sort of regular basis. That being said, I just finished Patty Jansen‘s Shifting Reality, the Book I of the ISF-Allion Series and it was…okay. The future world the novel depicts was an interesting one, though my biggest […]
I find this latest trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant particularly fascinating, though not necessarily for the reasons that I originally thought I would. I found the idea that Shaw (Noomi Rapace) had initially reassembled David (Michael Fassbinder) somewhat troubling, especially when you take into account the chaos that he had a hand in initiating–never […]
I honestly don’t much like what I have so far seen from Zach Snyder’s upcoming Justice League and the recently released International Trailer hasn’t much changed my mind. Snyder’s visual esthetic is on full display, which is to say that most images have a murky, ugly aspect to them, though if this were the movie’s […]
Everything that lives, eventually dies. And that’s okay because it’s the fear of death, of Thanatos, that drives all animals, of which we are, to procreate (so that our genes–and what are we if not the genetic material that literally makes us up–live on in our children). Immortality of a sort. What does the above […]
The trailer for Marvel Television’s Cloak & Dagger dropped today, and I really liked it. Sure, it went a bit heavy on the whole YA (Young Adult) angle, though when you take into account that it’s airing on Freeform–a name that sounds more like a type of women’s undergarment than a television network–which was formerly […]
It’s James Gunn’s world, we just happen to live in it. Reason being, reviews of Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2 have begun to filter in, and they’re pretty good. Though what’s interesting is that they’re not ALL that way, yet there’s not been a peep from either Marvel or Disney as a result. This […]
Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released a few hours ago, and looks… like a Star Wars movie. Which is stating the obvious, though it also reveals a problem. The last Star Wars movie, Rogue One, was what you get when you take Star Wars and remove the wonder, heart and engaging characters that […]
You’d think an action comedy/drama featuring Sam Jackson and Ryan Reynolds would be a slam dunk, then you’ll catch the trailer for Patrick Hughes‘ The Hitman’s Bodyguard and come to realize that maybe that’s not always so. I was hoping that at any moment it word turn into a more erudite version of Waltet Hill’s 48 […]
Ben Affleck originally planned to star, write (with Geoff Johns) and direct a solo Batman movie for Warner Bros and DC Entertainment though he eventually decided to step down from the latter (it’s believed that he did so because Warner Bros was insistent that he make a 2018 release date, which he felt he could […]
