The Coen Brothers Break Into TV

The Coen Brothers, makers of “True Grit,” “Fargo,” “The Hudsucker Proxy,” “Raising Arizona, “Miller’s Crossing,” among others, will be producing an hour-long comedy series at Fox, the news of which confuses me a tad.

It will their first foray into television, though I am not sure that TV is big enough to contain their unique vision.

That vision, which leans toward being very idiosyncratic (which, depending on who you ask, can be interpreted as ‘weird;’ which works because whether or not I like one of their films, all of them that I have seen were at the very least interesting).

That’s actually part of their charm.  If there were to direct and produce films like everyone else, then they would probably not be as well-known as they are.

In other words, to build an audience a Cohen Brothers-produced series might need a bit of time to build an audience, not something networks are known for giving lately.
