Watching the trailer for “Planes,” the latest animated feature from Pixar, I’ve noticed a pattern of sorts, in terms of the films that they release: Namely, they don’t necessary make children’s films – despite dealing exclusively in animation of the computer generated sort – instead they make films that can be enjoyed by children, though not exclusively for them.
I mean, you can call “Wall-E” a lot of things, but I am not sure that a children’s film would necessarily top the list. Some of the themes explored, such as destruction of the environment, aren’t necessarily easy to digest, never mind for children.
The same things applies to “The Incredibles,” and many other Pixar films.
I suspect that this is because, if they made films exclusively for them, their parents wold be reluctant to take them there, so they have to be engaged, too.
