Alien: Covenant – Official Trailer 1

This is a surprisingly not-that-great a trailer, especially when you take into account that it’s for a Ridley Scott movie.  For a start, the song that plays in the background is not only obnoxious, but ill-fitting. Then there’s the tone, which is hard to get a feel for.  If the two things I already mentioned weren’t bad […]

Life – Trailer

What’s with Sony Pictures and the heavy space exploration theme they seem to striking? Last week they released Passengers, a movie where Chris Pratt decides that being alone for 90 years sucks so much that the best thing to do is to submit someone else to the very same fate. Their latest effort is Life, […]

The OA – Review

I published a video earlier this week on YouTube reviewing Netflix’s The OA, which I thought was a pretty remarkable bit of television.   I figure that I’d expand on what I said in the video, without spoiling the experience for people who haven’t seen it yet (besides, spoilers suck). Brit Marling wrote most of eight […]

The Emoji Movie – Trailer

Seriously?  I guess that I shouldn’t be too 😱 that Hollywood is basing an entire movie on a concept as seemingly vapid as Emoji.  The trailer reminds me vaguely of Pixar’s Inside Out, which if you’re going to be compared to something, is not a bad thing.   Will I go to see it?  Probably […]

Blade Runner 2049 – Teaser Trailer

A teaser trailer was released for Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 original.   Looking at the trailer, it–at least on the surface–seems to hold a lot in common with the original. Which is problematic in some ways because the first movie was very much lots of style with relatively little […]

Dunkirk – Trailer 1

For an ‘EVENT THAT SHAPED OUR WORLD’–emphasis their’s, not mine–I readily admit that I have never heard of this particular conflict in World War II, though I don’t know if that’s due to a failing of the American education system or a de-emphasis of it because it doesn’t seem to directly involve the United States. […]

The Spider That Read Rowling

The title, while not quite accurate, sums up the little spider above.  It’s official name is Eriovixia gryffindori, a new species discovered in India.   Its scientific name was inspired by House Gryffindor, one of the four Houses that make up Hogwarts, from the Harry Potter series of books by J.K. Rowling.
