Will Blofeld Be In Bond 23?

According to Slashflim, there may be a new Blofeld in the next James Bond feature.  Blofeld (Full name: Ernst Stavro Blofeld), head of the criminal organization, SPECTRE, originally appeared in “From Russia, With Love,” and went on to be the main bad guy in “Thunderball,” “You Only Live Twice,” “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” and “Diamonds Are Forever.”

One of Bond’s most iconic and memorable villains, he was played a different actor in four of his five appearances; only Anthony Dawson played the character more than once, in “From Russia, With Love” and “Thunderball.”

Yet despite this, the most memorable Blofeld was Donald Pleasence, who, complete with Nehru suit and white cat, is perhaps the most iconic of the three versions of the character.  In fact, the character was so much so that his look and mannerisms were mimicked by Mike Myers, as Dr. Evil, from the ‘Austin Powers’ films.

Charls Grey’s turn with the character, in “You Only Live Twice,” struck me as a sometimes a bit too charming for such a devious villain, while Telly Savalas was too closely identified with “Kojak” in my mind to effectively play a villain.

Donald Pleasence as Blofeld at the 0:11 mark

Charles Grey

Telly Savalas as Blofeld at the 0:51 mark
