Help me understand something: On one hand you have Paul Verhoeven, the director of “Robocop,” “Hollow Man,” “Total Recall,” “Starship Troopers,” and others.
Each of those films, filled to the brim with gory, sexy, subversive goodness that not too many current films even attempt to approach, never mind equal.
So, considering all the really bad films out there, why remake a film that was really, really good in the first place?
Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense to me, either.
Yet, today I read that there is a remake of “Starship Troopers” coming down the pike, though–as far as I know–no one actually asked for one.
Sure, it could stick closer to the Robert Heinlein source material, though seeing that I have never been a fan of his writing, I could care less.
And I am not the only person who feels only disdain for the idea. Check out The Film School Rejects and You Bent My Wookie (quite possibly the BEST NAME EVER) for varying degrees of irritation.
