Tom Fontana, creator of television shows like “Homicide” and “Oz” is coming back to television with “The Box,” a police procedural with a difference: It revolves around an interrogation room of a police station. This is a very cool idea, though I think that Fontana could make a television show about the telephone book and I would at least give it a try.
He will be working with Barry Levinson, who also worked with him on “Homicide.”
The not-so-great thing is that the new series will be on A&E (because I don’t have cable), which is no doubt trying to drum up an original television series with as much buzz as “The Walking Dead,” “Mad Men,” or “The Killing,” all on AMC.
It’s a good start, especially if AMC continues to do things like cutting the budget of their highest-rated series, which is really odd because usually it’s those series that spend an inordinate amount of time in the ratings cellar that have to worry about the axe falling.
