If you have an opportunity to see any of the [Rec] series of horror films –”[Rec],” “[Rec] 2,” “[Rec] 3: Genesis” and “[Rec] 4: Apocalypse” – do it, subtitles or not (They were filmed originally in Spanish). And in case you’re wondering, ‘REC’ is short for quite a few things, such as: Renewable Energy Certificate, Regional Examination Center, though the one we’re most interested in is ‘Record.’
Yep, “[Rec]” is a variation on those found-footage films I tend to dislike, though unlike most of them, this one happens to work really, really well.
What’s also sort of interesting is that [Rec] 1 & 2 were directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, while “[Rec] 3: Genesis” was directed by Plaza, and “[Rec] 4: Apocalypse” was directed by Balagueró.
Some people are a bit put out with “[Rec] 3: Genesis,” which changes the formula slightly that worked so well with the first two films, but I actually found it pretty interesting, though markedly different from the first two films.

“[Rec]” was remade as “Quarantine” and “Quarantine 2: Terminal.” I don’t recall the former, though the latter was pretty decent.
