Disney released a teaser poster for the latest movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise:  Dead Men Tell No Tales.

This leads me to a confession: I haven’t watched ANY of the Pirates movies to completion.

They’re big, sprawling examples of modern filmmaking, and they just don’t work for me.

And I not sure why. Maybe it’s being an active participant in watching Johnny Depp’s decline as an actor; reduced to silly accents and a parody of Keith Richards.

Maybe Depp needs to stick to smaller features and rebuild his credibility.

And while i haven’t sailed on a schooner before, I imagine it isn’t as clean or dry as it tends to be in those movies.

Like I said, I don’t know, though what I do know is that I am not sure that another episode of a sprawling CGI-filled epic in a series that–despite remaining profitable–is going to help.
