Prior to today if anyone said that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would wind up in the Billion Dollar Club I’d wonder what they were talking about, since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will likely finish it’s theatrical run somewhere in the $840 million ballpark before it goes to Disney+ February 1, which is a respectable return.
That is, till The Hollywood Reporter revealed that it’s receiving a China opening, along with Ant-Man: Quantumania.
Now, people might say that piracy will be an issue, which is likely except won’t be as much of one as they think in that it doesn’t take into account that people – due to the state’s reaction to COVID – want to get out of the house, apartment or wherever and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be another avenue for them to do so.
And besides, I don’t think the viewing experience on a phone or other device compares to the communal nature of a big screen experience.
