I remember growing up wishing that Marvel Studios had control of the properties they ‘leased’ to other studios during their bankruptcy, like Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

Well, 2.5 out of three ain’t bad because with Disney’s purchase of the theatrical assets in 2019 they officially regained possession of the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

And while Sony Pictures still owns the right to Spider-Man, they’ve proven themselves fairly mediocre – ‘incompetent’ is too strong a word – in managing the franchise because while their recent output hasn’t been all that well received the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies were pretty good (with the exception of Spider-Man 3) and The Amazing Spider-Man by Marc Webb had its pleasures as well.

The Fantastic Four though? The two films released by Fox were okay, though like most adaptions of Marvel IP they didn’t work as well as they perhaps could have.

And the less I say about the ‘Galactus cloud’ the better (which if the filmmakers were bit more clever could have been something really interesting).

Though a few hours ago Marvel Studios dropped the teaser for their iteration of the Fantastic Four, and it’s pretty amazing.
