‘Interstellar’ Trailer

The British trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar was posted by Warner Bros a few hours ago, and it’s…OK.  It seems that at some point in an indeterminate future we lose the ability to feed ourselves (despite the huge cornfields in the trailer) though luckily Matthew McConaughey is around to pilot a mission to find other habitable worlds. […]

‘The Flash’ – Extended Trailer

I stopped watching the CW’s Arrow because (though intend to give it another try at some point) the producers reinterpreted some interesting characters, such as the Royal Flush Gang, in a manner that meant that they were the Royal Flush Gang in name only, reduced to a bunch of thieves with a playing card motif and no special […]

Is Sony Mismanaging The Spider-Man Franchise?

Part 1: Send In The B-Team Looking at Marvel today, it would be easy to assume that they have always been as successful as they are.  Though you’d be wrong because, before they were purchased by Disney, even before they launched their movie production arm, Marvel Studios, they were flirting with bankruptcy. To stop the […]

‘Deliver Us From Evil’ Exclusive Trailer

Scott Derrickson’s Deliver Us From Evil definitely looks like a movie to watch for. Lately everything seems so massive that every once in awhile I really welcome something on a smaller scale (though not too small.  Oculus was entertaining, but almost intimate.  And don’t get me wrong, I am not critizing spectacle, after all it’s a golden […]

Ben Affleck As Batman!

Zach Snyder released this black & white image of Batman (Ben Affleck) today on Twitter.  It’s from the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman.  And it looks OK, and while I wish that Snyder had taken the photo less to depict a mood than to actually show us Batman and the Batmobile. That being said, I am […]

Postmortem: The Happening (2008)

Part 1: It’s All About The Benjamins I imagine that M. Night Shyamalan, coming off the blockbuster success of 1999’s “The Sixth Sense,” thought that he literally ruled the world.  That movie, on a $40 million budget, earned almost $673 million dollars. His followup,  2000’s “Unbreakable,” cost $75 million to produce, almost doubled the cost of […]

‘Godzilla’ Trailer 2

I like this trailer, it’s very atmospheric.  As I have said before though, I am worried because Gareth Edwards’ last film, “Monsters” was atmospheric too, but offered little else. You even get a little bit of Godzilla-love at the end.  I hope that it brings the goods, after all we have already had a Godzilla reboot, […]

Are The Wachowski’s Re-entering ‘The Matrix?’

There’s talk about a new series of ‘Matrix’ films, and I think it’s an awesome idea.  The original story, about people fighting for the freedom to live in the world of the real, instead of a computer-generated facsimile, is a canvas broad enough that it can be easily be revisited. The most important thing is […]

‘Godzilla’ Trailer

The trailer of Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla” trailer has arrived, and I have to say that I like it (despite that opening ‘Transformers’ horn sound).  Heavy on atmospherics, relatively little of the big lizard itself, it’s looking pretty good. Overall, it looks interesting enough that “Monsters” will only be an distant memory.

‘The Hills Run Red’ Review

“The hints of potential–and they’re there–in “The Hills Run Red,” are too fleeting to invest the time to uncover.” Some movies, such as Dario Argento‘s “Susperia,” scare me.  I feel this way despite having seen it too long ago to remember any detail (though I do recall a young woman crawling through a tunnel lined […]
