Tyler Perry TV

It goes without saying that Tyler Perry has been very good for Lionsgate. His last film, Medea’s Big Happy Family, earned $53 million in the United States–Box Office Mojo doesn’t list foreign box office for the film–but a strength of Tyler Perry is his ability to, seemingly on demand, bring the African-American audience into theaters, and coupled with relatively small production costs of his films, makes him a box office force to be reckoned with.

For instance, “Why Did I Get Married Too,” made $60 million domestically, and just $578, 120 dollars overseas.

That’s Five Hundred Seventy-Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Eight Dollars, a minuscule sum that’s probably not significantly more than the catering budget on some larger films.

But the devil’s in the details.  $60 million is a lot of money, especially when your production costs are only $20 million.

Lionsgate is so impressed with Mr. Perry that they are considering more ventures with the film mogul, such as ‘Tyler Perry TV‘ (which will probably not be the final name, though it does offer the advantage of name recognition) which could take the form of a cable network, though details have not yet firmed.
