This is an interesting episode mainly because it’s based upon an image found by the Viking 1 Orbiter in 1978.

Some believe that it’s a structure that was discovered on Mars that resembled a human face, similar to the Sphinx in Egypt, while most established space scientists believe that it’s a simple trick of light and dark that by coincidence resembles a human face.

The ninth episode in the series it revolves around someone sabotaging NASA shuttle launches, which are somehow connected to that Martian artifact and some animating force behind it.

“Space” seems to exist independently of those that deal with the government conspiracy that are a much more common feature in later seasons.
