Considering the image you typically get of Islam in the United States (I can’t speak for the rest of the world but here it’s a faith that’s maligned seemingly whenever an opportunity to do so arises) I can understand why way too many people here demonize it and its adherents.
As an agnostic I am not particularly fond of religion in general though I also understand that it is a source of comfort for millions of people the world over.
Conversely, it’s also a source of exclusion and violence (how can it not be when a central premise of many religions is that they’re going to whichever version of Heaven (Nirvana, Paradise, etc) they happen to believe in, and you, as a heathen, are not only not along for the ride, but you’re doomed to suffer, abandoned by both your fellow man and God.
This is why The Lady Of Heaven is such an important movie, as many of the people who responded to my video stated.
It’s not my cup of tea but at the same time it’s good to see Islam depicted in a generous manner – the same way Christianity is – a religion as problematic as Islam in many ways – that reflects the best of it.
