Do We Need A New Version of ‘Salem’s Lot?’

Apparently there’s a new version of Stephen King’s Salems’s Lot, and according to King it’s quite good though for whatever reason Warner Bros. has not released it (in theaters or streaming).

Now I can see why Stephen King is concerned, after all it’s not beyond reason to think that maybe the series/movie will not be released at all, a repeat of what happened to Batgirl.

Or Coyote Vs Acme.

Though Stephen King seems to be missing something, namely should there have been a reboot/remake/revisiting of Salem’s Lot in the first place because if you’ve seen Mikael Salomon’s version in 2004 it’s really good – better than Tobe Hooper’s version in 1979, which isn’t bad – and I would argue should be considered the definitive version and didn’t need a remake.

And more to the point there are some really mediocre Stephen King movies/limited series – The Tommyknockers, The Langoliers, Maximum Overdrive, Sleepwalkers, The Dark Tower, etc though Salem’s Lot was never among them – that could easily warrant a remake (Mike Flanagan, who’s relationship with Netflix ended with The Fall of the House of Usher supposedly loves The Dark Tower and has prepared a treatment) though Salem’s Lot isn’t one of them.
