I understand that Marvel Television in its ‘street-level’ heroes tends to seek a more grounded, realistic esthetic than those typically employed by Marvel Studios. That probably has a lot to do with why of all the Defenders only one, Daredevil, has a costume (which is more in the vein of tactical armor than a costume, […]
If anyone had said that Marvel Television, when Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on ABC a few years ago, that they would come to dominate superhero television I would have been hopeful, but wouldn’t have treated them too seriously. Though having seen both seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil, as well as the first seasons of Jessica […]
At this point, if you’re a Netflix subscriber you’ve probably already started watching Marvel’s Luke Cage (if you haven’t binged all 13 episodes, that is) so I don’t have any intention of spoiling it for you. Except to say that the series is damn good television; so good in fact that–which I mention in my […]
After thoroughly enjoying Marvel’s Luke Cage (review coming soon!) imagine my surprise to see a new trailer for Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming Iron Fist on Twitter. https://twitter.com/thebestofmarvel/status/783224733575839744 There’s no reveal (yet) of Iron Fist–which is a good thing–but it’s very mysterious and harkens back to the character’s origins. Pretty cool.
If you haven’t heard, Netflix last week announced that a spinoff from Marvel’s Daredevil, featuring The Punisher, starring Jon Bernthal, is going straight to series. This is interesting, especially considering the denials from Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb early on. I enjoyed Frank Castle but I am left with a few questions.
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why the Marvel series being produced for Netflix are so successful. After all, they’re working with characters that I wouldn’t exactly call ‘first-stringers.’ Though that’s not by any means to imply that they aren’t beloved to many people, only that they’re plenty of more popular superheroes that have […]
“He is an asshole but at the end of the day he’s on our side of the war.” –Stick Probably safe to assume that Elektra is not following in Daredevil’s footsteps of as far stopping her murderous ways go (Yes’ she’s sticking her sai in that ninja’s eye). We learn that Stick is not only responsible […]
For awhile, despite my serious love for everything that was unfolding in Daredevil, I was wondering how they were going to manage to embrace the more fantastical aspects of the Marvel Universe. In the world that exists in Marvel Televised Universe, the heroes are much more grounded than they are in its cinematic brethren so […]
Daredevil not wanting to kill, I get, though problems start when you pair him with people with no such qualms. This means that he oftentimes gets in his or their way, endangering everyone. It happened with Frank Castle, and it happens again this episode, that is till a mysterious figure from his past–by way of the […]
We’re just beyond the half way mark in the Second Season of Marvel’s Daredevil, and the questions are coming fast and furious. What does District Attorney Reyes (Michelle Hurd) know about the Punisher that’s she not only willing to destroy Nelson And Murdock, but put her own reputation on the line for? What does he know, or […]
