“A confident debut by Joseph Gordon-Levitt” Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “Don Jon” is a remarkably assured debut though the film works as well as it does also because of the editing, which was done by Lauren Zuckerman. It’s amazing how good editing makes a decent film better by controlling how scenes flow from one to the next. But […]
I heard about the making of this movie awhile ago, though I only recently learned about the trailer. Johnny Depp is playing some type of scientist (I think he’s working with artificial intelligence, though the trailer didn’t specify) whom ends up having his consciousness transferred into a computer. This happens because of an assassination attempt […]
The trailer for “The Raid 2: Berandal,” which unfortunately has nothing to do with Marathon 2: Durandal, has arrived. There’s lots of punching, kicking and car crashes, though I had difficulty making narrative sense of most of it. I don’t know if that’s because I haven’t seen the first entry in the series (which supposedly […]
Happy Holidays! I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday, hopefully with those that care for, and vice versa. It goes without saying that the course that Bryan Singer charted with the 2006 film, “Superman Returns” was an unsustainable one. It cost $270 million to produce and earned $391 million in worldwide box office receipts. Box […]
The conclusions that I arrive at below, though logical, are pure speculation (unless they end up being accurate, in which case I knew it the entire time and am a prescient genius). Recently we learned that not only would Paul Rudd be the lead in Edgar Wright’s “Ant-Man” but Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be producing (and […]
I have to watch 2011’s “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” again. From what I recall, how the apes came to dominance didn’t strike me as particularly plausible – I know that we’re talking about about a movie where the apes are essentially acting like very hirsute humans, but still – because the entire […]
The trailer to the sequel to “21 Jump Street” is out and instead of high school, Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill) go to college. I didn’t see the original film, because I thought it looked stupid, though at the time I had no idea how likable Tatum seemed to be. There’s a joke […]
Some people prefer Marvel heroes, like Spider-Man and The Avengers, while others prefer DC, and characters like Batman and Superman, though the line between the two for most is a bit blurrier than that. For instance, while I generally like Marvel, I grew up on the giant-sized adventures of Batman, which I fondly remember my […]
The teaser (I still can’t quite get over the idea that studios are actually making teasers for trailers. It wasn’t that long ago that trailers were teasers for movies, but I digress) for Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” has arrived, and it’s full of wonder. And corn. That being said, you can see Nolan is trying to […]
Let me first come out and say that I think Tom Cruise is a pretty competent actor. That being said, I don’t think he can ever be great at his craft because he can’t seem to get over himself. ‘Edge’ is Cruise-centered, as usual (which makes sense when you’re the star of a film) but […]
