I was never particularly a Harry Potter fan–in fact, the only of the Potterverse movies I own is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, directed by the great Alfonso Cuarón–it should go without saying that I don’t particularly care about the prequels. And speaking of prequels, the teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes […]
Who the hell wants to see Christopher Robin!? That’s at least what I thought when I heard about this trailer; that is till I saw it and realized how absolutely charming it is. The movie visually feels vaguely like The Hudsucker Proxy (directed by the Cohen brothers) as Christoper Robin finds himself in world far […]
While I don’t think that it’s disputable that Marvel on Netflix has upped the ante on superheroes on television immensely that’s not for a moment to imply that there aren’t problems. The biggest of which (in my eyes) is that no matter the series–Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones or Luke Cage–they never seem to quite […]
It’s odd that from the opening to about midway the trailer for Wreck–It–Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet feels more like the original trailer for Tron–also from Disney–than it does anything else. Though it eventually finds its footing and ends in a surprising bit of gore (though this being a Disney Animation joint, none of […]
While Marvel Studios’ Black Panther literally tears through box office records Marvel Television–the arm of Marvel Entertainment that handles television projects–is doing…okay. They’ve got four shows on Netflix (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage and the The Defenders), one on Hulu (Runaways), one coming up on Freeform (Cloak and Dagger) and another on ABC (Agents […]
Growing up, Ray Bradbury’s Farenheit 451 was a seminal novel for me–less for the book itself than for the concept, namely a world where everyone is so afraid of differing points of view and knowledge in general that they resorted to destroying it as close to the wellspring as possible. And that wellspring are books. […]
Lost In Space–a series originally created by Irwin Allen–ran from 1965 to 1968 and apparently has more lives than a cat. I grew up watching it, though truth be told that was more due to there not being much else available in sci-fi at the time. Clearly low budget–though not as low as British series […]
I’m genuinely concerned about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Ready Player One. Reason being, there may indeed be a buzz building for this movie, but if there is I haven’t heard it. In the past Spielberg directing a project was a guaranteed smash. Now, with a lot of viewers I’d wager not even knowing who he is, […]
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is a bit of an anomaly less because it was written by two African-Americans, Ryan Coogler and Joe Ryan Cole, with a primarily African-American cast than taking those things into account the movie has been gifted a relatively large budget–for a Marvel Studios feature–of $200 million. And that’s pretty convincing sign […]
