“Insidious 2,” the sequel to 2011’s “Insidious,” is ramping up for production, according to Bloody Disgusting.com.  The original film, written by Leigh Wannell and directed by James Wan, brought in on a budget of $1.5 million, earned almost $100 million dollars worldwide.

Insidious, currently screening on Netflix, involves a family that are terrified to learn that it’s not their house that’s the source of the haunting that vexes them.  It’s an interesting film, that, as Whannell says, manages to avoid many of the cliches that mar many horror films.

That being said, the only weakness that the film has is that Oren Peli is listed as a producer.  He directed the first “Paranormal Activity,” and produced the two following sequels–and can’t seem to move beyond the idea of a family haunted by restless, and extremely vindictive, spirits.

I guess he’s found his niche, but niches aren’t always good places to be.
