Space: 1999 is being rebooted, if Deadline is accurate. I don’t know if Gerry Anderson will be involved, though I hope that he is. Anyone that has followed my blog knows that I have been following this project, in its various forms, since its inception, and I am glad to hear that there will potentially be a new series.

Do you think it will be as good as the original Gerry Anderson series?
I am not sure because the original series itself differed so drastically from Season One to Two. Then there’s the fact that I discovered Space: 1999 at a very impressionistic time of my life (sometime in my early teens, when I was forming opinions about myself and the world around me. Then there was the fact that it wasn’t Star Trek, which I always thought looked cheap and spent (relatively) too much time concerned with whom Kirk was screwing.
Plus, there were the beautiful, practical special effects. The day of such things is, for the most part, gone, so I doubt that I even could feel the same way about it, though if they frak up the design of the Eagle, arguably the most functional-looking and beautiful space craft in movie history, I’ll be pissed.
When all is said and done, if either of the revamped versions respects the viewer, as well as the series that proceeded them, I think that they at least have a fighting chance.
