For awhile I was thinking that Elijah Wood being cast as the lead in “Maniac” was a mistake.  Before I saw the trailer, I couldn’t get Frodo Baggins out of my head.  After having seen it, focusing particularly on his creeped out eyes – they seem a bit too widely spaced, with that creepy Innsmouth look –  I could easily imagine him slaughtering someone.

That’s a good thing, I think.

The reboot has a more cinéma vérité look, almost in the vein of a relatively inexpensive found footage film.
