“James Wan’s “Insidious, Chapter 2” is a worthy successor to the original film.”

“Insidious 2,” James Wan’s sequel to his 2010 film, is a very effective sequel.  Like it also revolves around Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) and his family, which continued to be plagued by some very malicious ghosts.

This time the star of the movie is Leigh Whannell’s screenplay, which bounces backwards and forward in time, yet manages to do so in a cohesive and logical manner.

This time around the film explores what’s behind the hauntings, and lays the groundwork for Insidious, Chapter 3.

The movie also cleverly reintroduces Elise Ranier (Lin Shaye) – who died in the first film –in a very clever fashion that feels natural.  There’s also some comic relief in the form of Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson), who are also returning from the last film and don’t overstay their welcome.

When all is said and done, “Insidous 2” is worthy sequel to the original film, and accomplishes its scares the old fashioned way: mainly through sound, lighting effects, and makeup.

By the way, keep an eye out for the “teapot” scene.  It’s not scary, but it is particularly awesome.
