Ang Lee’s Gemini Man is, on the face of it, problematic.
First off, on the face of it the plot of the movie seems AWFULLY similar plot-wise to 2012’s Looper.
But that’s likely just a coincidence. After all, there’s relatively little that’s new under the sun.
Though what’s potentially an bigger issue is that the movie appears to be shot at a faster frame rate than movies typically are, something Ang Lee is particularly enamored with (he used the same technique for Billy Lynn’s Long Half Time Walk).
And that movie didn’t do particularly well.
Now I’m not saying that the faster frame rate was exclusively why that movie underwhelmed at the box office, but it certainly didn’t help.
