A trailer for Blumhouse/Universal’s The Hunt dropped about a week ago but you probably weren’t aware of this because Universal pulled advertising for the thriller due to the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas last week.
And that’s a problem because while I respect that a major studio is putting concern for what the public is wrestling with before profits there’s one problem: Politicians are blaming movies and video games for our seemingly weekly gun violence problem, and studios acting as if movies are somehow at fault isn’t helping.
And the problem is guns, and some people feeling that they have a God-given right to possess them.
It’s a problem, and Universal pulling advertising for The Hunt isn’t going to help.
