Fast & Furious 9 as a title just feels awkward to me. Maybe it’s the combination of an ampersand with a number.
Though the trailer itself? It’s fucking bonkers. I’ve never been a fan of the Fast & Furious movies but it feels like it’s part of the MCU’s multiverse because the cars and their drivers don’t even pretend that little details like physics and gravity matter.
Then there’s the testosterone on display, most of it held within Vin Diesel’s tense, stony frame. And if it weren’t obvious how much of a Man he is, he somehow manages to drive a car off a cliff (I think it’s a Shelby Mustang) with it attached to a rope.
You don’t see how the scene ends, but I get the feeling he’s going to be just fine despite any impression to the contrary.
Then there’re the numerous fight scenes where he and his assailant crash through milt-story windows, yet somehow alway manage to never hit the street in a pulp of broken bone and blood.
And I get it, it’s a movie and there should be minimal, if any, expectation of real world consequences to anyone’s actions, but I don’t think the earlier movies in the franchise shared more in common with the Harry Potter franchise than Cannonball Run.
And I understand that the filmmakers need to keep upping the ante, but it’s getting a bit outlandish.
