Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is likely to finish its theatrical run somewhere in the ballpark of $800-850 million, which is pretty damn good, though I’m reasonably sure there will be someone who’ll says ‘Black Panther: Wakanda‘ Forever underperformed compared to the first movie.’
And by looking strictly at the numbers, that’s – fairly obviously – true though you have to keep in mind that the theatrical space is still recovering from COVID and that the movie had not received a release in China.
If those two factors were not in play I’d argue that the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever today would have come closer to reaching the box office of its predecessor.
That being said, I’m reasonably certain that there will be a sequel because, never mind the reasons I’ve already mentioned, Black Panther was the first big-budget movie that that featured and was directed and written by African-Americans and that it wasn’t by any means expected to do as well as it actually did.
