Gunn Shooting Blanks?

James Gunn has called Andy Muschietti’s upcoming The Flashone of the greatest superhero movies ever…‘ and that’s only true if you’ve seen very few superhero movies, because if you have, it isn’t.

It has many problems, the most significant being Ezra Miller – never mind his various, and well-documented – problems in real life. His Barry Allen is less a depiction of a human than a collection of various tics and odd behaviors, so if you found his character irritating in either version of Justice League you’re not likely to feel any different here.

Then there’s the way the story by Christina Hobson and Joby Harold less leans into nostalgia than falls off a cliff into it.

And the less one says about the dodgy CGI – particularly in the latter third of the movie – the better because it’s fairly obvious though what’s particularly grating is the depiction of the nexus between realities, which eventually makes sense but is just confusing till it does.

Though at least someone taught Ezra Miller how to actually run in the meantime, so there’s that.
