Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, of Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. (ADI) aren’t names that most people are familiar with, though if you have seen Alien, Predator, The Thing (2011), Monster Squad, Mortal Combat, The Fly, The Fly II among many, many others, then you are more familiar with their work than you think. Despite such a pedigree, the film industry have […]
Earth To Echo looks like like a combination of (insert favorite found-footage movie here) and E.T. The Extraterrestrial. It might be good, it might not, though I wonder how much it’s going to draw eyes from the Tom Cruise starrer Edge Of Tomorrow (which I still think would have attracted more attention if they had kept the title All […]
This new trailer for James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy popped up on the Interwebs yesterday, and it significantly expands the scale of the universe–literally and figuratively–that the Guardians call their sandbox. It seems a conventional summer blockbuster in many ways. And in other ways, not so much. Something important about is is that–if Marvel Studios current […]
Tim Story is a prolific multihyphenate producer-director, who in the 12 years between 2002 to 2014, produced one feature and directed 10. In 2011 he began a partnership with Kevin Hart, directing the standup specials Laugh At My Pain, followed by Let Me Explain (with Leslie Small) in 2013. Between those two films he directed Think Like A Man, with […]
James Gunn, director of the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy, posted this picture by Poster Posse on his Twitter feed today, and it brings back all sorts of memories. If Guardians touches on the feelings that Star Wars evoked, even a little bit, it’s going to be awesome.
Mortal Combat X (I assume that that’s ’10’ as opposed to the letter) is the relaunch of a series which was probably one of the most influential fighting games ever made, which had a little to do with it spawning two movies. This version of Mortal Combat has the violence of prior games in the series–you know […]
According to Variety, Scott Derrickson is directing Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios! This is an awesome choice because, judging by some of the films that he has directed, like Sinister, Hellraiser: Inferno and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, to name a few, show that he has a grasp of the strange and unusual. A quality that’s a […]
Since I have been in an apologizing mood lately, I figure that I might send a little love Eli Roth‘s way. The reason being, I recall when his 2005 movie, Hostel, came out some critics called it “torture porn.” I can’t speak for anyone else, but while I enjoy horror movies, I don’t particularly like violence for its […]
SPOILERS ABOUND! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST GO AWAY TILL YOU HAVE BECAUSE SPOILERS ARE LIKE LANDMINES. THEY’RE HIDDEN TILL YOU STUMBLE UPON THEM, THOUGH BY THAT TIME IT’S TOO LATE, AND SOMETHING IMPORTANT IS LOST.
Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past (review coming soon) just crossed the $500 million dollar barrier, making it the highest grossing of the X-Men films (the link contains spoilers. If you have not seen the movie, ignore it). And my response is: So what. What people seem to be missing is that 20th Century Fox is mismanaging […]
