I caught Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One on video last weekend (after not seeing it in theaters). And that wasn’t an accident. The trailers for the movie looked like a bit of a train wreck, with Spielberg’s name being it’s biggest selling point. And I was right. Sort of. Ready Player One is indeed a […]
Earlier today Disney released a trailer for the live-action iteration of their 1984 animated feature, The Lion King and no one should be particularly surprised, especially after 2016’s The Jungle Book, where we saw that CGI could render panthers, bears, hyenas and other animals with remarkable accuracy (I’d be amiss if I also didn’t mention […]
John Carpenter’s 1981 dystopian thriller Escape From New York spawned a sequel–1996’s Escape From L.A.–and a lawsuit. And now it’s birthed a bit of fashion that–probably–won’t kill you when the clock reaches zero. If oversized smartwatches are your thing, click here for more info.
I’m not quite sold on James Wan’s Aquaman. This is besides the fact that think, for the most part, the DCEU (DC Cinematic Universe) is a bit of a clusterfuck, which is problematic because it consists of characters so iconic, so well-known that it should be relatively difficult to screw it up. After all, Marvel […]
This review is a long time coming because while I’m a huge fan of the original Pacific Rim I didn’t know how to approach the sequel, especially since the director of the first, Guillermo Del Toro, wouldn’t be returning to the franchise. Steven DeKnight (Spartacus, Marvel’s Daredevil) directed the sequel, and his approach–to be expected–is […]
What’s the point of Once Upon A Deadpool, or as I like to call it, Deadpool 2-lite? A cynical money grab by Fox to see if they could milk more dinero from a movie already released–and gone–from theaters? A ploy by Disney–who gained the rights to Deadpool and all the characters that comprise the […]
The trailers prior to Teaser Trailer #2 for Focus Features’ upcoming Captive State were perhaps too clever for their own good. Reason being, when I first saw the first teaser I assumed that it dealt with a Purge-type situation, which I lost interest in pretty quickly because…the Purge. But the second trailer has revealed that, […]
Let’s be honest: I have no intention of seeing Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. That being said, if it were even a little bit as nuts as this trailer is I just might.
Watching the final trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel I was struck by how unremarkable–and somewhat mundane–it appeared to be. And that’s not quite fair. It’s a good-looking trailer, and features actors like Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali and (this should go without saying since Alita: Battle Angel is also produced by James Cameron’s Lightstorm […]
Pixar’s Toy Story movies have been consistently good, which is really difficult to do. Though they’re not typically movies I’m drawn to, I do understand that they’re oftentimes pretty remarkable and definitely have their audience. Toy Story 4 is the latest in the series, though having just watched the trailer…it looks fine, but hints at […]
