I’m not quite sold on James Wan’s Aquaman. 

This is besides the fact that think, for the most part, the DCEU (DC Cinematic Universe) is a bit of a clusterfuck, which is problematic because it consists of characters so iconic, so well-known that it should be relatively difficult to screw it up.

After all, Marvel Studios made a successful Ant-Man movie–Ant-Man!–yet it’s somehow beyond Warner Bros to get Superman and Batman right!?

Though closer to the topic at hand: I’ve never been an Aquaman fan–I’ve always though of him as a less interesting version of Namor, The Submariner–but Black Manta?

He’s pretty awesome. I’ve always had a soft spot for odd characters–Mysterio is one of my favorite Spider-Man villains–and Black Manta just works for me.

Unfortunately, as this trailer makes abundantly clear, Manta is likely–at best–a secondary, or even tertiary character with the main storyline revolving around Aquaman returning to Atlantis to face his brother, Orm for leadership (I’m going to call him Ocean Master (played by James Wan regular Patrick Wilson) because ‘Orm’ sounds like a character out of Fantastic Planet).
