This review is a long time coming because while I’m a huge fan of the original Pacific Rim I didn’t know how to approach the sequel, especially since the director of the first, Guillermo Del Toro, wouldn’t be returning to the franchise.

Steven DeKnight (Spartacus, Marvel’s Daredevil) directed the sequel, and his approach–to be expected–is different than Del Toro’s.
