To be honest I’m not a huge fan of Netflix’s Stranger Things. I don’t mean do say that I don’t enjoy the series–so far I liked both seasons, though prefer the First–but it’s always felt like it was imitating the 80’s as opposed to the characters actually living in that decade.
And the reason for that is there’s almost a fetishistic detail to things like hair styles and wardrobe that feels somehow…off.
The best way I can describe it is if the people behind the scenes are working TOO hard to mimic a particular time in history by giving significance to things that under other conditions would seem pretty much insignificant and fly below the radar.
Now the opening theme music by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein? That’s pure genius.
I bring it up because a few weeks ago Netflix released the episode titles of the upcoming Third season, and coupled with that brilliant theme they seem more awesome and significant than they have any right to be.
