Like assholes, likely everyone has an opinion…as to why Ava DuVernay is directing New Gods for DC Films.
What brought this line of inquiry to mind was the a story from Comicbooknews about DuVernay directing a show called DMZ (starring the breathtaking Rosario Dawson).

The last big-budget feature she directed was Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time, a movie that cost in the $100 million to produce, which earned just over $133 million.
In other words, a failure.
And that’s not to say that she’s the first director to fall upward, and while I’m accustomed to seeing this with white dudes (David Goyer, Zach Snyder) it’s extremely unusual to see in African-American women.
I’m expecting this deal with Warner Bros (the parent company of DC Films) to fall apart because I’m not convinced DuVernay gets this material.
And that’s the bind: How do you know if you’re able to do something if you aren’t given a chance? DuVernay isn’t known for directing effects-heavy action films, though does that mean you don’t give her a try?
