REview: Doctor Sleep (2019) | Destined To Be A Cult Classic And Among The Best Sequels Ever Made

Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep–the sequel to The Shining–is a great movie.

I try not to to be hyperbolic in my praise but it’s pretty remarkable. It somehow manages to pull off taking everything good about Kubrick’s movie and revisiting it in a way that feels new and original.

And something that has to be commented on is the way Flanagan cast actors that looked enough like the actors from The Shining in such a way that it wasn’t off-putting or took you out the movie, and perhaps more importantly, didn’t rely on CGI (something someone should have clued Gareth Edwards on because his CGI replacement of Peter Cushing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was just…off).

And I also tend to not to be particularly enamored of child actors because they tend to be like little adults, as opposed to children but the young people in Doctor Sleep acquit themselves just fine.

It’s a remarkable movie and as I say in my video is likely to not only become a cult classic but is one of the best sequels ever made.
