Remember Birds of Prey – or as it later came to be (ridiculously and somewhat pretentiously) called, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn?
That movie underwhelmed at the box office, earning just over $200 million worldwide – which would be a triumph if it were more moderately-budgeted.
Though one that cost $85 million ($84.5m) to produce? That’s a problem.
I mention it because looking at the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Gunpowder Milkshake, it feels what we should have seen from Birds of Prey, namely a film lead by women that had more to offer than seemingly just being lead by women.
Gunpowder Milkshake appears to wear it’s politics on it’s sleeve, though it also doesn’t feel like they’re being rammed down anyone’s throat.
And the closer as far as I’m concerned is that it looks ridiculous in the best possible way, like a combination of John Wick, Charlie’s Angels and Kingsman.
