REview: Halloween II (1981) | Less Than The Sum Of Its Parts)

Halloween II, directed by Rick Rosenthal is in it’s way fascinating because how it came together is more interesting than the movie itself.

John Carpenter, the director of Halloween, didn’t want to revisit Haddonfield, instead wanting to direct a sequel revolving around entirely different characters, though holding in common Halloween and the potential horrors it holds.

And that was something he wanted to revisit after The Fog, though the producers wanted Michael Myers back and they weren’t willing to wait.

Though Carpenter and his writing partner/producer Debra Hill had an idea in mind, though relatively little made it into Halloween II, story-wise.

It isn’t a terrible movie though perhaps a more pertinent question is if it’s a worthy followup to Carpenter’s original.

And it definitely isn’t though it’s distinctive enough in in it’s own way to at least be interesting, which is something.
