Gina Carano’s Lawsuit is Going to Fail

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gina Cerano is suing Disney because she was fired from The Mandalorian in 2021.

And it’s a lawsuit she’s likely to lose because as I understand it actors are At Will Employees, which is to say they can be fired for virtually any reason at all (and while an employer couldn’t fire a person because they weren’t the ‘right’ color, female, handicapped or things of that ilk though if they don’t make it known that that’s the reason they’re dismissing someone, they’re on fairly solid grown).

Cerano is a known Conservative, but that’s not the reason she was fired.

Instead Cerano was fired because she couldn’t keep her mouth shut on social media, espousing views and beliefs which could potentially reflect badly on Disney themselves.

According to the article she’s suing on the basis of free speech but let’s be clear, ‘free speech’ as most people seem to use the term, is an ideal and aspirational, something to be lived up to but never actually achieved.

And that’s because there are typically very powerful people who might not like what you’re saying, and they’re often very willing to kill you for even the attempt.

Though perhaps what’s even more interesting is that seemingly Elon Musk is ‘contributing’ to her legal defense because he’s a known advocate of free speech, that is, till he isn’t – which is interesting because he’s running X (formerly known as Twitter) into the ground so I imagine he’s not all that liquid but when he can hijack what should be Carano’s moment in the sun for free it’s a bargain at any price.
