Remember a few months ago when I discussed that Netflix was dumping its Marvel Television properties (for reasons that were supposedly due to low ratings–and while that may be true I believe it to be a simplification)? If I recall I also paraphrased Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) from 2013’s Pacific Rim ‘In order to fight […]
You know the feeling you get when you think a movie’s likely to be a blatant money grab? Let’s just say my radar went off when watching the trailer for Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play. Klevberg’s filmography is relatively brief–I’ve seen posters of Polaroid in movie theaters, but have no idea when the movie will actually […]
Shaft is back! Richard Roundtree introduced the character to moviegoers in 1971 in an eponymously titled movie directed by Gordon Parks and written by Ernest Tidyman and John D.F. Black. It spawned two sequels, Shaft’s Big Score in 1972 (also directed by Parks) and Shaft in Africa, this time directed by John Guillermin, in 1973. […]
The Twilight Zone is a tricky franchise to revisit. There’ve been numerous versions since the original, which ran in 1959-1964, but none have captured the spirit of the zeitgeist quite like it. The most recent version is being spearheaded by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) though I suspect that it won’t be able to escape […]
According to The Hollywood Reporter Paramount has stopped development on a sequel to 1993’s zombie thriller World War Z. The movie has been in various states of development for years, with the most recent version being shepherded by David Fincher (The Game, Fight Club) Apparently the issue is related to budget–ironically enough, the same problem […]
When I heard that there was talk to reboot the Child’s Play movies I was a bit disappointed because, under the leadership of original writer Don Mancini, it’s been a really interesting series of movies. I think the original is pretty good, though the sequels don’t quite hit the target. That being said–particularly in the […]
I honestly don’t think there’s a such thing as an ‘unfilmable’ novel–not any more, at any rate–especially with so many ways to present a work. You could choose network television–which brings certain advantages–or maybe HBO or Starz, or streaming options like Amazon or Netflix. You have to match the material to the venue. This is […]
Universal Pictures dropped a trailer for their Fast and Furious spin-off, Shaw & Hobbs and…it’s interesting because while it continues the car fetishization typical for the series it’s a spin-off from–if the trailer is at all accurate it’s become a superhero film. For instance, Idris Elba’s Brixton IS Power Man (essentially)–which is interesting because Netflix […]
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony’s movie division posted a $107 million profit, which is particularly impressive considering only two years earlier they posted a $719 million LOSS. Now, if you’re Sony you’re probably feeling pretty good about things though if you’re a person who happens to be watching a Sony movie…let’s just say your […]
That’s Zach Snyder if you’re nasty. The former architect of Warner Bros’ DCEU and director of movies like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and (arguably) Justice League is according to The Hollywood Reporter directing the upcoming Army of the Dead for Netflix. Snyder directed 2004’s reboot of Dawn Of The Dead […]
