NBC, as part of their upcoming new season, is launching a series based upon DC/Vertigo’s Hellblazer.   And unlike the last movie based on the character, this time around he’s actually British!  And blond!

I don’t know quite what’s going on, but I have grown accustomed to television executives doing their best to ignore, not acknowledge, the books their series or movies are based upon, so it’s a nice change of pace.

Matt Ryan, who plays John Constantine, sounds a bit Cockney to my ears, while in my head I always imagined the character a bit smoother, more cooler and a little less working class Brit.

That being said, I’m picking nits because, on the face of it at any rate, this is at least trying to be an accurate interpretation.  It’s also directed by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday,  Centurion, Black Sails) so at least he has his genre bonafides intact.
