REview: Porno (2019) | Not At All What One Would Expect

You’d think that calling your horror movie Porno would be akin to having a case of blue balls (in that there is no way on Earth it’s going to live up to the title) though you’d be (mostly) wrong because this movie has great stamina, and stays hard virtually it’s entire running time.

The story revolves around five teenagers (who’re actually teenagers! It shouldn’t be unusual that young people actually play young people, though in a story like this it’s crucial because if you can’t suspend disbelief over the age of the main characters nothing else is going to work) who work in a movie theater in a small town that takes their religion very seriously.

Which can be a problem with you inadvertently summon a succubus (a sex demon) and unlike how they’re typically depicted, this entity goes both ways so no one is safe.

Most religions as far as I can tell are fueled by various degrees of denial and repression, so let’s just say a demon way into sex isn’t something that the teens (or anyone else for that matter) are accustomed to dealing with.

This movie works really, really well mainly because while it’s a commentary on things like intolerance, false piety and being not true to yourself, it places the commentary under ample layers of gore and nudity.

It’s also hilarious, very well-acted and clever in ways that movies like this typically aren’t.

And I can’t speak for anyone else, but I stand for attention when I see really good horror movies (okay, that’s the last sex-adjacent pun).
