I readily admit that Tom Twyker’s A Hologram For The King isn’t the type of movie that I typically go for, though there are a few things about it that pique my interest.
First off, you have Tom Hanks reciting the lyrics for The Talking Heads “Once In A Lifetime, which is awesome.
Then there’s Twyker himself, who in my humble opinion is one of the most interesting directors working today. He directed Perfume: The Story Of A Serial Killer, which is a fascinating movie that is so visually rich that it’s simply remarkable. Then there’s The International, which is one of the best thrillers I have seen in awhile.
Visually, his style reminds me of Ridley and Tony Scott, rolled into one individual.
He’s also worked on Netflix’s Sense8, having directed two episodes as well as composed the awesome opening theme (with Johnny Klimek).
