I’ve got to admit that this caught me by surprise. I knew that The Haunting Of Bly Manor was coming but had no idea that there was a teaser trailer – thanks Vulture! – till a few hours ago.

I really enjoyed Netflix’s The Haunting Of Hill House (2018) and Doctor Sleep (2019) – though Absentia (2011)? Not so much mainly because it was too similar to They (2002) while just not as good.

Plus They co-starred Ethan Embry (The Devil’s Candy), who is genuinely a good actor who happens to like acting in genre pictures.

What makes Mike Flanagan’s movies work so well is that they’re about more than the scare. That’s certainly there but the journey is just as important as the destination in Flanagan’s eyes, which means that you’re going to get a story as thoughtful as it is scary.

And I expect nothing less of The Haunting of Bly Manor.
